What is an extended aeration wastewater treatment system?

The compact Rewatec extended aeration system treats wastewater in a single tank with two chambers. The first chamber is the biological reactor and the second chamber acts as the decanter.

Our extended aeration technology removes pollutants through a continuous aeration and clarification process. After treatment, the system returns effluent to the environment in accordance with local requirements.

This solution is perfect for commercial projects and small communities that serve 50 to 250 PE with flow rates up to 150 m3/day and strive for high performance with minimal energy consumption.

    How does our Rewatec extended aeration technology work?

    Our extended aeration wastewater treatment system is simple, compact, and easy to operate. A single electrical panel controls the operation of the system’s electromechanical equipment and can be adjusted as required.

    The system uses the activated sludge treatment process. Wastewater enters the first chamber (the reactor), where membrane diffusers fed by side-channel blowers inject fine air bubbles. The moving air supplies the system with oxygen to encourage bacterial growth and reduce the load of organic matter.

    Once wastewater passes through the reactor, it flows via gravity into the clarification chamber. In this chamber, suspended solids sink to the bottom of the tank and clarified water exits through an overflow at the top.

    The bottom of the clarification chamber has a submerged pump that recirculates settled sludge back to the reactor. This keeps the level of activated sludge at optimal levels at all times, which maximises the system's efficiency.

    For communities of more than 50 PE, it is always recommended to install a screening system upstream of the reactor.

    The system's blower and electrical panel should be installed in a weatherproof enclosure to reduce maintenance and increase the service life.
