How your septic system is installed
In most cases, installations take 3 days from site preparation to final handoff. Complex or remote installations may take longer.
Here's what to expect:
- Site preparation and excavation
Your installer prepares the site and excavates the ground to accommodate your system, taking care to avoid utility lines and minimize disruption to your property. - System installation
Your septic components are positioned at the correct depth and connected to your home. The scope of work depends on your system. A conventional septic tank and drain field is relatively straightforward. An advanced treatment system involves more components and more precise installation. - Electrical connections (if required)
If your system includes a pump, float switch, or alarm, a licensed electrician connects the electrical components to your home's power supply before the system is covered. - Inspection and sign-off
Before any backfilling takes place, your local authority visits the site, reviews the work against your approved design, and confirms your system has been installed correctly. Once it passes inspection, written approval is issued and your installer can close the site. - Backfill and site restoration
Once inspection is complete, the excavated areas are filled in and compacted. - Final handover
Before the job is done, your installer walks you through your new system — how it works, what to keep an eye on, and when to book your first service. If you have questions after they leave, we're here.
