Advantages of filter renewals for the Ecoflo compact biofilter

Installing a septic system is a lot of work.

You need to find the right pros for the job. You need to get quotes and permits. And you need to sacrifice your landscaping to get your new system in the ground.

When it’s all done, you don’t want to do it again. But because most septic systems have limited lifespans, that’s exactly what you will need to do.

Not so with Ecoflo. The Ecoflo compact biofilter is designed to be the last septic system you will ever buy — and that’s thanks to its filter renewals.

How other septic systems work

To understand the advantages of Ecoflo filter renewals, you need to know three things about how other septic systems work:

  1. Sludge builds up
Sludge is a natural byproduct of the wastewater treatment process. It builds up in all septic systems (even the Ecoflo compact biofilter). This black or brownish muck is made up of partially decomposed solids. The bacteria in septic systems cannot fully break down this material, so it builds up over time.

  2. Clogging leads to failure
The sludge that accumulates in other septic systems eventually ends up in the drain field (some people call it a leach field). That’s the spot with buried pipes that allow wastewater to filter into the ground. Sludge clogs these pipes, and the sand, gravel, or soil below them. This blockage causes the entire system to fail.

  3. Failure means replacement
Here’s the kicker: drain fields are buried and inaccessible. There is no way to monitor the build-up of sludge inside them. And you can’t effectively remove it once it’s there. When sludge causes other septic systems to fail, the only option is to dig them up and replace them.

How is Ecoflo different?

The Ecoflo compact biofilter is different because it has a filter made of natural, renewable, and compostable coconut husk fragments. (Some models in Ontario use a combination of coco and peat moss.)

Here is why coco is a game-changer:

  1. Stop sludge in its tracks
Our coco filter is not just a perfect home for microorganisms that break down wastewater contaminants. It’s also a physical barrier that traps sludge and other pollutants before they can enter your drain field.

  2. No system failure
Our coco filter is effective for 13 to 15 years (with proper care, it's often longer). When its days of trapping sludge are over, we simply renew it with a new one. You never need to worry about drain field clogs or system failures.

  3. Renewable by design
Unlike other septic systems, the Ecoflo compact biofilter is fully accessible. That means it's easy to open the system’s lid, remove the old filter, and install a new one in the same tank. No excavation. No costly replacements. No damage to your landscaping.

The benefits of Ecoflo filter renewals

When you choose a septic system that can be renewed instead of one that has to be replaced, you get eco-friendly benefits and long-term savings. Here are a few reasons why we think it’s the best choice for green thinkers who don’t want to compromise on performance or convenience.

Save money

The biggest advantage of Ecoflo filter renewals is that they save you money in the long run.

If we use Ontario as an example, it costs anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000 to replace a septic drain field that has clogged and failed.

Ecoflo filter renewals are a fraction of that price. The exact cost depends on factors like the location and accessibility of your property. For a free quote tailored to your specific Ecoflo system, please reach out to our team.

Restore your system to day-one performance

When we remove the old filter from your Ecoflo system, we’re removing all the sludge that has built up inside it.

A filter renewal is all your system needs to return to its original performance. Once the job is done, your system will continue to treat wastewater and protect your property for years to come.

Reset your warranty

After your filter renewal, we automatically reset our original warranty on the performance of your Ecoflo system.

Our guarantee is the most comprehensive in the industry. Unlike other septic system manufacturers, our warranty includes:

  • no clogging
  • no excess sludge
  • no substandard treatment performance

Protect your landscaping

Gardens, flowerbeds, and lush lawns are often a point of pride. You don’t want to undo your investment (and your hard work) for the sake of a septic system that wasn’t designed to last.

Since the Ecoflo compact biofilter is easily accessible, we don’t need to move or excavate anything when we renew your filter. The landscaping you see before our service visit is the landscaping you will see after we leave.

Stay fully operational

When other systems clog and fail, you need to replace them.

Between the removal of your old system and the installation of your new one, you have no way of treating your wastewater. You need to bring a septic holding tank on site or find other accommodations. Both options are costly and inconvenient.

That is never a problem with Ecoflo filter renewals. Your septic system remains fully operational while we remove your old coco filter and install a new one. You can shower, do laundry, and flush your toilet whenever you want.

What happens during an Ecoflo filter renewal?

Here is a closer look at what to expect when it’s time for us to renew the filter in your Ecoflo compact biofilter.

Step 1: Remove old filter

After opening the lid of your Ecoflo compact biofilter, we use a specialized vacuum truck to remove the old filter.

Once the biofilter container is empty, our technicians thoroughly inspect it to ensure that all internal components are in working order.

Step 2: Install new filter

The new filtering material is compressed in sealed packaging when it arrives on site.

Our service partners add the contents of a few packages to the biofilter, then use a tool to evenly distribute the material. This promotes optimal biofiltration and creates an ideal environment for healthy bacterial activity.

The technicians then repeat the installation process until the biofilter container is sufficiently full.

Step 3: Compost old filter

When possible, our service partners send your Ecoflo system’s old filter to an organic waste facility.

Because our filters are made with all-natural coconut husk fragments, they create excellent compost for reforestation and soil stabilization projects.

Can I change my Ecoflo filter myself?

Ecoflo septic system owners are often very handy. Some are contractors, and a few even work in the septic industry.

That’s why we sometimes get asked if a homeowner can renew the filter in their Ecoflo system on their own.

The short answer is no. While filter renewals might seem like a piece of cake, there are important reasons why our team at Premier Tech Water and Environment is the best choice for the job.

We know when to renew your filter

In most cases the filter in your Ecoflo compact biofilter will last 13 to 15 years before it needs to be renewed. With proper care, it may last even longer.

Our team eliminates the guesswork. We analyze your system’s previous maintenance reports to determine exactly the right time to take preventive action. This keeps your filter in your system for as long as possible, and helps you get the best possible performance out of it.

We are coco experts

The coconut husk fragments in your Ecoflo system are a patented material that is the product of years of research, testing, and innovation.

It is not something you can buy off the shelf at your local garden store. It comes from Premier Tech Water and Environment only.

Why? Because it takes a specific type of coco to effectively treat wastewater. Our coconut husk fragments have the right size, porosity, and stability to ensure that your Ecoflo system functions at its best.

We have the right training and tools

Working on septic systems can be dangerous.

That’s why we train our service partners each and every year. It not only makes them Ecoflo experts. It gives them the knowledge they need to work safely and avoid the health risks that lurk in wastewater.

Equipment matters too. We have vacuum trucks to remove your old filter, plus the tools needed to correctly install the new one. In our hands, the work takes just a few hours, and you get peace of mind knowing the job was done right.

Finally, we understand local regulations. That means we know the best (and most eco-friendly) way to dispose of your used filter.
