Premier Tech finds a drainage field alternative for a historic manor
Project
- septic system replacement for a historic manor
- United Kingdom
- 2-week duration
Challenges
- failed drainage field
- desire to preserve property's garden space
- aesthetics
Solutions
- 50 PE sequencing batch reactor
- 3 Ecoflo biofilter units as a drainage field alternative
- annual service agreement
A historic castle located in County Durham had been using an outdated septic tank system that discharged into a failed drainage field.
The property owner chose Premier Tech to design and install a compliant, long-term wastewater treatment solution that would preserve the character and garden space of this landmark site.
Challenges identified during Premier Tech’s initial site inspection and assessment
The property's existing septic tank discharged into a failed drainage field, and the system needed to be replaced to meet current UK regulations. However, due to ground conditions, a new drainage field would have required significant space — leaving little to no room in the gardens.
In addition to a compact footprint, the client was looking for a discreet, long-term solution backed by a reliable manufacturer warranty.
Premier Tech's solutions
To address both the regulatory requirements and the site constraints, Premier Tech proposed a two-part solution: a 50 PE sequencing batch reactor combined with three Ecoflo biofilter units.
The Ecoflo units served as a compact, above-ground drainage mound — an alternative to a traditional mound that preserved the aesthetic appeal of the grounds and carried a 10-year filter warranty.
The project was completed in 2 weeks, and the client opted into Premier Tech’s annual servicing program to protect the long-term performance of the system.
“I approached three companies who quoted for the works. I liked the idea of the Ecoflo biofilter as a mound as opposed to a traditional mound. Not only does the Ecoflo biofilter look more aesthetically pleasing, it also comes with a 10-year warranty.”
