What are forecourt separators?
Our forecourt separators have been designed for specific use in petrol filling stations, refuelling facilities, fuel storage depots and other similar applications to guard against the accidental spillage of fuel.
The size of this separator has been specifically designed to retain the possible loss of the contents from one compartment of a road tanker, which could be up to 7,600 litres.
Forecourt separators are an essential infrastructure requirement for all forecourts to ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.

How do forecourt separators work?
Step 1
Contaminated stormwater enters the separator where the liquid is retained for a sufficient period of time. This ensures pollutants (such as petrol, diesel or oil) separate and rise to the surface of the water.
If required, a silt trap can also be installed upstream of the forecourt separator to limit any potential blockages, damage or flooding in the tank.
Step 2
The decontaminated water then passes through the coalescing filter before it is safely discharged from the separator, with the remaining pollutants being retained in the separator.
Step 3
Retained pollutants must be emptied from the separator once the level of oil is reached, or the oil level alarm is activated. This waste should be removed from the separator under the terms of the Waste Management Code of Practice.
All Rewatec forecourt separators have an automatic closure device (ACD) fitted as standard. This prevents accumulated pollutants flowing through the unit when maximum storage level is reached.

Technical information
Our Rewatec forecourt separators are available in class 1 (ANO) for a concrete backfill, (LMO) for a granular backfill, and for discharging to surface water only. They are also available in class 2 (ANT) for a concrete backfill and for discharging to a foul drains only.
