Free technical article: Phosphorus removal in off-mains wastewater treatment plants

Humans, as all living creatures, require nutrients (i.e. nitrogen and phosphorus) to maintain vital functions. When the appropriate facilities are not present and/or are inadequate to treat the metabolic nutrient-based by-products, in the form of sewage, environmental problems such as deterioration of aquatic systems and poor quality of water occurs (i.e. eutrophication).

In our latest technical article we explore how the level of phosphorus can be greatly reduced in smaller sewage treatment plants (<50 PE) by using a combination of timed aeration and chemical dosing.
